Human Growth & Development Letter (All students received a copy yesterday)

Dear Parents/Guardians:

The School District of West Allis-West Milwaukee, et al., will be presenting a program on the early stages of puberty to the students in sixth grade. The program helps boys and girls understand:

  • The structure and function of the reproductive system
  • The physical and emotional changes that take place during puberty
  • The importance of personal hygiene

The students will be separated into two gender based groups. These groups will be small groups with approximately 20 in each group. The boys and girls will not be together for any part of this program. The boys from both coasts will be together and hear the same message from Mr. Matt Napoli. The girls will also be together and they will get their instruction from Ms. Miller. The program will include a video, a presentation by school personnel, and a question and answer session. The sessions will be held at your son/daughter’s school at the following time:

Grade 6 Presentation at Lane Intermediate School:

Date: Tuesday, April 14th and Wednesday, April 15th, 2015

Time: Starting at 8:00am both days. Scholars will be rotate in and out of the presentation in hour time slots.

We want parents to be aware of this program and when it is taught so that you can have an opportunity for discussion with your child at home. Parents are also welcome to attend the presentation with their child. Parents may inspect the curriculum and instructional materials.

You are being notified of the state law 118.019 via school newsletter prior to the program being taught at Lane Intermediate School. You may opt/exempt your child out of human growth and development instruction. If a parent files a written request for exemption with a child’s teacher or principal, the District will honor that request. If you opted to have your child not participate, your child will be placed with another teacher during the presentation.

Respectfully,

Mr. Henry
